Counselor

Context:

New Light AIDS Control Society started its operations in 1999 and currently working in the area of HIV/AIDS with focus on care and support of PLHIV in Pakistan.

New Light AIDS Control Society has its main office at Lahore, however care and support project is implemented by New Light through out Punjab and Sindh. New Light is going to scale up its program under Global Fund Round 9 at Punjab and would provide comprehensive care and support services to PLHIV.

Conducts counseling session and assesses clients’ needs, make and document referrals as needed Administers pre- and post-tests. At the pre-test counseling session conducts risk-assessment with the client to obtain risk history and demographic information for reporting purposesUpholds and ensures  confidentiality related to the clients/program/organization Ensures non-discriminatory and non-judgmental conduct in accordance with the organization’s policiesDevelops and maintains related database, reports and records. Key Responsibilities:

Provides assistance to the Project Manager and Chief Executive Participates in programs, meetings, trainings and other organizational activities as per instructions and requirement Understands and follows program operating policies and procedures Encourages and maintains the Center's mission of hospitality and empowerment through person-centered relationshipsInteracts with members and visitors of the NLACS for VCT Services Assesses potential candidates for individual counseling and support groups Ensures and provides a healthy tone with the clients, their families and colleagues troubleshooting problems as they arise Follows and interacts with current participants of the target Communities (receiving or have received individual counseling or group support) Provides outreach, education, counseling, and testing services for individuals and groups at high risk for HIV & AIDS and other STIs. Participates in the identification of individuals and groups in the community at high risk for HIV & AIDS and other STIs; Provide education to individuals and groups related to HIV and other STIAssists in the development and distribution of educational materials. Provides partner referral services. Contact individuals identified as positive for HIV or other STIs and provide education, counseling, referral and partner referral services. Initiates action to comply with other grant contract provisions in order to meet established objectivesConduct counseling sessions at community levelConduct home visits with project team Supports project manager in monitoring and data verificationAny other task as directed by the Project Manager, Chief Executive and other senior staff of the Head Office Maintains confidentiality to access of information regarding New Light AIDS Control Society and its PartnersPersonal/professional Skills:

Masters degree in Psychology Minimum one year professional experience in handling and managing counseling work Sufficient knowledge, experience and sensitivity about HIV & AIDS and PLHIV issues Ability to analyze problems and provide systematic solutions in line with established policies/proceduresExperience working with the local organizations preferred Willingness to travel as and when required.Flexible, motivated team player.Fluency in Urdu and Local Languages of PunjabGood communication and facilitation skills on sensitive topics.

Breast Feeding Counselor

Relevant Experience:

• Metric pass minimum, FSC/FA Preferable • Demonstrated 1 to 2 years of overall experience; and a minimum of 6 months of specific development sector experience • Experience in MNCH and Nutrition, CMAM/IYCF, Community Mobilization • Experience of working with malnourished population specially children and pregnant / lactating mothers. • Good oral and written communication skills • Excellent interpersonal skills • Demonstrated ability to work in insecure environments • Ability and willingness to travel

Job Description:

• Deliver nutrition activities to the beneficiaries (children, pregnant /lactating women) in the community. • Screening for women with breastfeeding problems. • Counseling on feeding practices for infants and young children. • Health/hygiene/nutrition promotion at health clinics and community.

GBV Counselor

Requirements:    

University degree in Psychology, sociology.Professional experience in Gender Based Violence (GBV), similarly in different local regions will be preferred.Proven familiarity with and understanding of guidelines and best practices relating to programming for GBV in conflict settings. Proven ability to translate the concepts of GBV programming into appropriate activities.Computer knowledge is a Must. Responsibilities:

Consult with other professionals to discuss therapies, treatments, counseling resources, or techniques, and to share occupational information.Refer clients to specialists or to other institutions/ organizations for non-counseling treatment of problems.Advise clients on how they could be helped by counseling.Analyze data such as interview notes, test results, and reference manuals in order to identify symptoms, and to diagnose the nature of clients' problems.Counsel individuals, groups, or families to help them understand problems, define goals, and develop realistic action plans.Develop therapeutic and treatment plans based on clients' interests, abilities, and needs.Evaluate the results of counseling methods to determine the reliability and validity of treatments.
