Producers-BBC


BBC Urdu provides news and current affairs to Urdu speaking audiences through online, radio, TV, social and mobile media. In line with Global News Divisions innovation objectives of reaching new audiences, As Producer, Islamabad you will be expected to prepare, monitor and coordinate radio outputs, be it long format AM, MW, SW or short format FM and GNB programmes. The producer will have to generate own original ideas for stories; conduct/arrange important multi-format interviews and present them on air. He will support correspondents, other producers and camera crews working in Pakistan to cover the news for Urdu/English outlets

This position will require a full command and up to date knowledge of spoken and written modern standard Urdu, as first or equivalent language. You will have a good knowledge of English including complete comprehension of written and spoken English and the ability to communicate effectively, coupled with experience as a journalist, relevant to the target area, with a good knowledge of production techniques. This role will need you to have the ability to write, adapt and translate with accuracy, clarity and style appropriate to differing audiences and forms of media, along with good keyboard/basic computer skills and the ability to acquire technical skills and to operate technical equipment, including familiarity with the Internet and an awareness of the potential of new technology. You will have a thorough knowledge and understanding of news and current affairs, in Pakistan, good knowledge of, and interest in, international and British current affairs, particularly insofar as they affect the target areas and a thorough understanding of the editorial aims and policies of BBC journalistic output and a willingness to adopt BBC Values. You’ll also have Knowledge of the law as it applies to journalism and to work away from base filming and on outside broadcast – often in hostile environments. 




This role will need you to monitor political and social developments in Pakistan and to generate story ideas for the BBC. You will produce items for TV, Radio and Online, using the appropriate technical and production skills, arrange interviews, access and permission for filming and the gathering of material and to organise the resources and travel required for BBC teams to gather material. You’ll also be required to actively develop and maintain strong relationships with key external contacts in Pakistan in the government, political parties, business and other groups and institutions. This position will expect you to translate interviews conducted in Urdu into English and translate other written and spoken material between both languages, coupled with monitoring incoming copy, local media reporting in Pakistan, social media and other outside sources to ensure teams are aware of the latest news on events in Pakistan. You will observe and carry out any requirement outlined in the BBC safety policy and specifically to conduct risk assessments whenever appropriate, along with working with World Newsgathering planning teams in London and elsewhere in the South Asia and the Urdu Service team in Islamabad to ensure information on future events is shared.
