RESEARCH / POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Pakistan Strategy Support Program, a collaboration between Innovative Development Strategies (IDS) and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), seeks a qualified candidate to serve as Research Fellow or Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the area of applied microeconomics. The position will focus on the evaluation of production technologies and natural resource management, with a particular emphasis on agricultural biotechnology and water management. This position is a two-year, fixed-term appointment, and is renewable depending on performance and funding. This position is based at the PSSP offices located in Islamabad, Pakistan.

The Pakistan Strategy Support Program (PSSP), launched in July 2011, is a flexible country-led and country-wide policy analysis and capacity strengthening program. The program provides analytical support on a range of economic policies affecting agricultural growth and food security in the country. The core purpose of the program is to contribute to pro-poor economic growth and enhanced food security through strengthened national capacity for designing and implementing evidence-based policy reforms. This requires improving research-based policy analysis; building capacity, leadership and networks among researchers and policy analysts within and outside the government; and disseminating research results among diverse stakeholders. See http://pssp.ifpri.info/index/ for further details.

IDS is a private sector consulting company, established in 2002, that offers a wide array of analytical and policy support services in the field of development. It carries out diagnostic and evaluative studies, provides policy recommendations, and undertakes policy dissemination related to issues of economic development and poverty reduction. See http://www.idspak.com  for further details.

IFPRI is one of the international agricultural research institutes organized under the umbrella of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). The mandate of IFPRI is to identify and analyze alternative national and international strategies and policies for meeting world food needs in ways that conserve the natural resource base, with emphasis on low income and on the poorer groups in the countries. IFPRI has a strong record of past and current experience in Pakistan and worldwide on which to build a successful Pakistan Strategy Support Program. IFPRI’s work in Pakistan from the mid-1980s to mid-1990s had substantial long-term benefits in terms of research output that provided a knowledge base for Pakistan agricultural policy, data resources for policy analysis and capacity building among Pakistani researchers and policy analysts. See http://www.ifpri.org/ for further details.

The selected research/postdoctoral research fellow will be employed directly by IDS and work on a full-time basis under the PSSP, in close collaboration with a team of IFPRI and IDS scholars based in both Islamabad, Pakistan, and Washington, DC, USA.
