Position Objective:

The Director of Business Risk (DBR) is responsible for managing security for multiple United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded projects in Pakistan, implemented by Chemonics International. This senior-level security position requires high performance in information collection and analysis, networking, incident management, risk analysis, and personnel management. The DBR will be expected to establish strong working relationships with a number of local and international organizations and entities as well as develop strong ties with the project staff. The DBR will work with Chemonics leadership, both in Pakistan and in the Washington, D.C. home office, of security trends and incidents and provide support during a crisis situation.  The position will be based in Karachi, Pakistan with frequent travel throughout Sindh, Punjab, and other locations in Pakistan.

The Director of Business Risk will at all times adhere to and act according to the Chemonics Professional Code of Ethics (“Living Our Values”) and will make the principles of the Code a part of the project’s culture and standard operating procedures.

Specific Tasks/Responsibilities:

Assess security risks impacting the projects’ expatriate and local staffAdvise Chemonics leadership, both in Pakistan and in the Washington, D.C. home office, of security trends and incidents and provide support during a crisis situationWork closely with the security team in Washington, D.C. to maintain and updated security standard operating proceduresProvide oversight and technical management of security subcontracts, security subcontractor staff, and identify areas for subcontractor improvementMaintain comprehensive understanding of country context through ongoing information gathering, analysis, networking, and dissemination of information to relevant partiesConduct personnel, facility (office and residences), and operational threat and risk assessments for project activities in PakistanMake recommendations for security enhancements and modifications and ensure that approved recommendations are implementedAct as a local crisis manager and coordinate security lockdowns, evacuations, and response to security incidents in Pakistan

 Qualifications

Minimum 10 years of experience in security, crisis management, and research and analysisStrong understanding of security situation in Pakistan; specific expertise in security challenges facing Sindh and Punjab Provinces preferredExperience in low visibility approaches to security platformsAbility to establish strong working relationships with project stakeholders Ability to resolve conflicts and crises effectively Excellent interpersonal skills Ability to gather and analyse information associated with physical, psychological, business, and operations risksDemonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrityBachelor's degree preferredWritten and oral English fluency requiredIt is anticipated that this position will be filled by a Pakistani local national

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is driven by the vision of a world without malnutrition. GAIN is a Swiss based international organization that mobilizes public-private partnerships and provides financial and technical support to deliver nutritious foods to those people most at risk of malnutrition. The organization is delivering improved nutrition to an estimated 700 million people in more than 30 countries, half of whom are women and children.

The Scaling Up Nutrition Business Network (SBN)’s ambition is to foster a new dialogue and relationship between business and other development actors in nutrition, which will lead to new, innovative ways of addressing malnutrition, the leading cause of child morbidity worldwide, including Pakistan which suffers high rates of micronutrient deficiency and stunting.

GAIN and the World Food Programme (WFP) have been appointed as convenors of the Business Network. GAIN is therefore looking for a self-motivated, team player to lead the development and implementation of Pakistan’s Scaling Up Nutrition Business Engagement Strategy.

SUN Business Network Manager, Pakistan

The SUN Business Network Manager, operating at global level has overall responsibility for the development of the network in Pakistan.

Responsibilities

Develop, execute and manage the Scaling Up Nutrition business engagement strategy in Pakistan.Through document reviews and regular stakeholder consultations, identify the private sector investment landscape in nutrition in Pakistan and relevant entry points within broader public health nutrition strategies and programs.Engage e business leaders in Pakistan in their potential roles in scaling up nutrition and the potential business benefits to investing.Organise technical and political level meetings between business leaders and other key stakeholders across government, civil society, bilateral and multilateral donors to strengthen cross-sector dialogue and build consensus on priorities and opportunities.Develop a roadmap for business contributions to scaling up nutrition in key thematic areas, in consultation with government, and build commitment from a wide range of stakeholders to invest in and implement this plan.Broker new partnerships which align with the business investment roadmap, supported by technical assistance in-country and globally as required.Liaise with other key SUN Movement stakeholders in country (including Government focal point, civil society representative, donor leads and others) to build visibility and represent the SBN in country.Provide content and communications support to global SUN Business Network manager to raise visibility of country level activities to global level, and seek commitments from businesses in Pakistan to join the movement and feature new commitments on the global website platform.

Experience

Proven track record, and results, in managing nutrition projects in Pakistan.Experienced partnership broker and/or negotiation skills with the private sector.Excellent relationship management and development experience, and familiarity with managing a wide platform of stakeholders within the nutrition sector.Experience in communications and advocacy for development.

Skills & Attributes

Excellent project manager.Strong experience with international development, private sector development, and public-private partnerships.Experience in nutrition, maternal/child health and or agriculture a strong plus.Creative, independent and hard-working.Good representational skills, leadership and public-speaking.Strong written and verbal communications.Strategic thinker with experience in strategic planning and/or project design.

Education

Qualified to Bachelors level (minimum) in development studies / management / international relations/health/nutrition/ economics/business or other social sciences.Masters degree desirable (in the same fields as above).

Other requirements

Business English, written and verbal is essential, Urdu is desirable.Willingness and ability to travel nationally and on occasion, globally.How to apply:
