Lab Technician

Context:  

New Light AIDS Control Society started its operations in 1999 and currently working in the area of HIV/AIDS with focus on care and support of PLHIV in Pakistan.

New Light AIDS Control Society has its main office at Lahore; however care and support project is implemented by New Light throughout Punjab and Sindh. New Light is going to scale up its program under Global Fund Round 9 at Punjab and would provide comprehensive care and support services to PLHIV.

Primary Responsibilities:

Collects lab specimens, instructing clients on collection procedures and performs tests. Performs lab tests, records results as per standard operating procedures on lab work Maintains lab area in a stocked, hygienic, and organized condition at all times Maintains strict confidentiality of the client Information and matters of organization as per requirements and demands of the work.Responsible for equipment and instrument updated inventory and protection.Responsible to coordinate all lab result and lab activities (as per standard operating procedures) with the Project manager and counselor.Responsible to confirm the quality of lab regents and Rapid test kits (expiry date, quality and storage).Assists the procurement committee when purchasing the Lab/related equipment.Maintains respectful and professional attitude towards clients.Demonstrates sensitivity to the needs of the clients especially women, young people and people from marginalized groups.Responsible to send or deliver lab work to appropriate outside agencies with  information as per standard operating procedures Assists medical history taking; taking vital signs and chief complaint; notification of practitioners of abnormal findings Helps pre-assemble charts; may assist in filing charts and lab results, and other pertinent information in patient records Shares responsibilities for stocking exam rooms, treatment room, and bandage trays; inventories stock and other medical supplies; notifies Project Manager of medical supply need in time.Ensures effective and efficient usage of protective equipment, Wears appropriate clinic dress, wears protective hand gloves when handling needles or sharp instruments  Any other duty assigned by the supervisor/s.Maintains confidentiality to access of information regarding New Light AIDS Control Society and its PartnersPersonal/professional Skills:

Minimum two years of professional experience as lab technician/supervisor.Diploma of Lab Technician. Professional knowledge of basic computer programs Ms. Office, Excel, Power point will be preferredGood communication and facilitation skills Flexible, motivated team player.Must have fluency in Urdu, knowledge of local languages of the Punjab preferredKey Relationships:

Project Manager,  Admin and Finance Officers, Project Staff and Chief Executive. External:

UN agencies, INGOs , Local  NGOs, PACP, NACP, CRS, Hospitals, HIV treatment centers.
